Washington State's Laws Regarding Home-based Instruction
Washington State is a great state for homeschooling! It is possible for families to choose their own curriculum and set their own schedule. It is important to know what they DO require, however. The Washington State Homeschool Laws are written and explained nicely in what is called, the Pink Book. Here are the main points:
A student must take a standardized test or have a non-test assesment written by a certified teacher each year.
Parents can issue their own High School transcripts and diplomas, but they must still meet the state requirements for course studies.
A parent must qualify for homebased instruction:
Have 45 or more college credits
Work under the supervision of a certified teacher (Kitsap Family Learning Center)
Taken a qualifying course (see below)
Able to Teach
