Great Bend Youth Chorale The Great Bend Youth Chorale welcomes children ages 4-14 at all levels of skill and interest, and places a particular focus in providing ensemble music-making opportunities for home school families. The ensemble is led by Matthew Blegen, whose doctoral research in choral conducting focused on the practice of singing together as a means of community development. Matthew served as Artistic Director of the Bainbridge Youth Chorale, where his youngest choristers focused on projects (like recording a Christmas CD in a professional studio, or writing their own musical). Matthew has also enjoyed working with youth musicians through the University of Washington and Charles Wright Academy. We meet in Union, Washington, in three sections, on Tuesdays based on age and experience (no audition required for most). More information is available here: www.greatbendmusic.org/wordpress/ensembles/great-bend-youth-chorale/ Fee varies by section and age, and scholarship support is available, especially for families with multiple children participating. Piano & Composition Instruction with Kate Moody Children and adult students of all levels and abilities are welcomed. My goal as a teacher is to support the unique spark in each individual while helping to develop his or her knowledge and enhancing their appreciation of music.
Areas of focus are performance (learning and polishing pieces), technique (developing finger control and agility), and music theory (the language of music) through creative work (improvisation and composition, including notation). Students learn scales, chord progressions and arpeggios, and create and play music in all of the keys, utilizing my book, “Playing and Composing Around the Circle of Fifths.” Classical repertoire is also emphasized, with some jazzy and pop pieces included. I encourage students to explore music of interest - please ask me about playing music of any style! Rates: $150/four 45-minute lessons, $200/four 60-minute lessons. Scholarships are available for active and dedicated students with financial need. Please inquire if you are interested in music classes for groups with a focus on theory, creativity, ensemble performance, singing, and movement. Melin Music Studio: Violin, Viola, Beginning Piano and Beginning Guitar Lessons with Jane Melin, NCTM If your child wants to learn to play violin, viola, piano or guitar, start their musical journey with an experienced and creative teacher. I am a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Violin and work with students ages 4 to adult. I emphasize music-reading skills for all beginners, regardless of age. My traditional teaching methods for violin and viola build a solid technical foundation for musical exploration into advanced classical, folk/fiddle and pop genres. String students will also learn keyboard basics to understand intervals, harmonies and chord progressions. Beginning piano students will learn to read music and play with accuracy and expression, setting them up for success no matter how far they plan to progress. Beginning guitar students will learn basic chords and strumming techniques to play simple songs right away. I try to communicate my enthusiasm for learning to my students! My students participate in fun events each year like the Kitsap Young Musicians Festival, Kitsap Music Teachers Association Music Carnival, WSMTA Music Artistry Program, Seattle Young Artists Festival, Christmas carol ensembles, studio parties and WSMTA Music Literacy Program. I encourage my string students to join local ensembles like school and community orchestras for maximum application and enjoyment of the skills they attain in private lessons. 30-, 45- and 60- minute weekday lessons available depending on advancement level. Private, in-home and small-group lessons available. Cost varies; contact me for more information. Location: Poulsbo Website: melinmusicstudio.com Email: email@example.com Phone: 360-394-2086
